On Monday 23rd March the government increased restrictions on which businesses must be closed in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. Fortunately bicycle shops were included in the list of exceptions to this rule, along with other essential services such as food shops and pharmacies.
Many of those working in crucial services within the city and across the nation, such as those working in the NHS and other emergency services, schools, pharmacies, supermarkets and delivery companies cycle to get to work. In the days running up to Monday’s announcement there had been concerns that bicycle shops would be forced to close. This could have profound effects on these key workers should they need cycle repairs or parts to allow them to keep getting to their essential work.
Despite restrictions not being imposed by the government, many cycle shops across the city are implementing restrictions and adjusted opening hours to keep their customers and staff safe. We collected the latest information available from shops across the city below to help keep you informed should you need repairs and parts during this time.
As this is a changing situation, please use the below as a guide only. We recommend checking the companies’ websites/social media for the latest news, and getting in touch with the shop to check availability before setting out to avoid wasted journeys.
We will regularly check and update the list. If you run one of the below shops and need your details updating, or have been missed off, please let us know at YorkCycleCampaign@gmail.com.
