More than one lock is recommended, but the biggest deterrent is using the best locks and locking your bike correctly. This link “Guide to locking your bike” provides locking and security
advice for deterring thieves from stealing your precious bike. We have included some additional tips below.

  1. Personalise your bike with permanent stickers, paint, lights on spokes, etc.
  2. Take a selfie of you with your bike.
  3. Consider security locking skewers or nuts to protect your wheels from theft.

REPORTING A STOLEN BIKE IN YORK

If your bike is stolen, contact the police immediately (call 101), provide a description, and report it online at www.northyorkshire.police.uk. If you see a bike crime in progress, call 999, and never approach the thief – they sometimes carry lethal tools. For crimes at the York Railway Station – text British Transport Police 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40. In addition, we recommend contacting Stolen Cycles – York on Facebook with your bike details and any images.
