City of York Council have announced the start date for works to improve the crossing between St. Mary’s and Bootham Park across Bootham Road.
In October 2020 we welcomed proposals for crossroad junction to be made signalised making it easier for cyclists to continue the east-west journey from Bootham Park to the revamped Scarborough Rail Bridge.
The proposed works will replace the give-way junctions of St Marys and Bootham park with a new traffic light controlled junction combining the nearby aging pedestrian crossing that at the end of it’s lifespan.

Works to the signals are due to start on the Monday 17th January and are planned to be operational by the week commencing 21st February. Following the completion of the signals the junction will be resurfaced, as will the bottom section of St. Marys ahead of proposed works to provide the ramp to Marygate Lane.
